Visualize a cube that is held with one of the four body diagonals aligned to the vertical axis. Rotate the cube about this axis such that its view remains unchanged. The magnitude of the minimum angle of rotation is

  1. 120°
  2. 60°
  3. 90°
  4. 180°

Correct answer: (A) 120°

Explanation

At either endpoint of a body diagonal, three faces meet.

Rotation about that diagonal cycles the three equivalent face directions, so the first nontrivial symmetry is one third of a full turn: **120°, A**.

Quarter-turn symmetry belongs to a face-centre axis instead.
