GATE 2024 IN – Question 30

Electrical Circuits and Machines · AC circuits and resonance · 1 mark · Numerical answer

A circuit has voltage $v(t)=95+200\cos(120\pi t)+90\cos(360\pi t-60^\circ)$ V and current $i(t)=4\cos(120\pi t-60^\circ)+1.5\cos(240\pi t-75^\circ)$ A. Its average absorbed power is ______ W (nearest integer).

Correct answer: 200 to 200

Explanation

Only equal-frequency voltage and current components contribute average power. The fundamental gives $P=(200)(4)\cos60^\circ/2=200$ W. The DC voltage has no DC current partner, and the unmatched harmonics average to zero.

Answer: **200 W**.
