GATE 2021 IN – Question 4
Two operators are defined by $p\oplus q=(p^2+q^2)/(pq)$ and $p\odot q=p^2/q$. If $x\oplus y=2\odot2$, then $x=$ ______.

Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: (B) $y$
Explanation
The right side 2⊙2=2²/2=2.
Thus (x²+y²)/(xy)=2, so x²−2xy+y²=(x−y)²=0.
Hence **x=y, B**, with nonzero denominators as required by the operator definition.
