A closed traverse has signed consecutive coordinates (northing, easting) in metres: PQ (−437,+173), QR (+101,+558), RS (+419,−96), SP (−83,−634). Closure length and whole-circle bearing, respectively, are ______.

  1. 1 m and 90°

Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: (A) 1 m and 90°; (C) 1 m and 270°

Explanation

Net northing is $101+419-437-83=0$ m. Net easting is $173+558-96-634=1$ m. Endpoint misclosure is therefore 1 m east (90°, A); the return vector closing the traverse is 1 m west (270°, C). The official key accepts both conventions.
