Budhan covers 19 km in 2 hours, cycling one fourth of the time and walking the rest. Next day he covers 26 km in 2 hours, cycling half the time and walking the rest, with the same respective speeds. His walking speed is ______ km/h.

Correct answer: (D) 6

Explanation

Let c and w denote cycling and walking speeds. The days give $0.5c+1.5w=19$ and $c+w=26$. Subtract half the second equation from the first: $w=19-13=6$ km/h. Answer D.
