Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: (B) − 0.69
Explanation
True axial strain is ln(Lfinal/Linitial). With final length half the initial length, strain=ln0.5=−0.6931. Compression is negative under the usual tensile-positive convention, so **−0.69, B**. Engineering strain would instead be−0.50.
