GATE 2024 PI – Question 35
Manufacturing Processes I · Metal Forming · 1 mark · Numerical answer
A 100 mm diameter blank is cut from 2 mm sheet. Radial punch–die clearance is 6% of sheet thickness. Find punch diameter (two decimal mm).

Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: 99.76 to 99.76
Explanation
For blanking, the die sets the blank diameter. Radial clearance is 0.06 × 2 = 0.12 mm on each side. Punch diameter = 100 − 2(0.12) = **99.76 mm**.
