Correct answer: (D) 8

Explanation

The repeated value $x$ is the mode and the fifth entry $y$ is the median. Hence $y=2x$. The sum is $44+3x+2y$, and mean equals $y$, giving $44+3x=7y$. Substitute $y=2x$: $44=11x$, so $x=4$ and $y=8$. These values satisfy the stated ordering, giving D.
