For IEEE 802.11 wireless MAC: I: At least three nonoverlapping channels are available. II: RTS–CTS is used for collision detection. III: Unicast frames are acknowledged. Which hold?

  1. I, II and III
  2. I and III only
  3. II and III only
  4. II only

Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: (B) I and III only

Explanation

Under the historical 2.4 GHz plan assumed here, channels 1,6,11 provide three nonoverlapping channels. RTS–CTS reserves the medium and reduces hidden-terminal collisions; it does not detect collisions. Unicast delivery uses an ACK. Hence I and III, B. Channel availability depends on band and regulatory domain.
