GATE 2024 BM – Question 64

Sensors and Bioinstrumentation · Physiological Measurements · 2 marks · Numerical answer

Motor nerve stimulation is 4 cm and 24 cm from the recording site. Corresponding distal and proximal latencies are 6 and 10 ms. Find conduction velocity in m/s, nearest integer.

Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: 50 to 50

Explanation

Subtract latencies to remove shared neuromuscular and recording delays. Distance difference is 24−4=20 cm=0.20 m; latency difference is 10−6=4 ms=0.004 s. Velocity is 0.20/0.004=50 m/s.
