Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: (A) 5.34

Explanation

Set O=(0,0), with east and north positive. Then N=(1/√2,−1/√2), M=(1/√2,4−1/√2), and P=(0,−2).

Their displacement is (1/√2,6−1/√2). Its length is $\sqrt{1/2+(6-1/\sqrt2)^2}\approx5.3399$ km.

Therefore the nearest listed distance is **5.34 km, A**.
