A composite conductor comprises three identical circular conductors of radius R arranged as shown, with all centre spacings 3R. If its geometric mean radius is kR, find k.

Show answer and explanation Correct answer: 1.85 to 1.95
Explanation A solid circular subconductor has self GMR r′=e⁻¹/⁴R≈0.7788R. For an equilateral three-subconductor group, composite GMR is $(r\prime D^2)^{1/3}$.
With D=3R, this becomes $R(9e^{-1/4})^{1/3}$. Therefore **k≈1.91377**, within 1.85–1.95. The physical radius R alone must not replace its self GMR.
