Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: (C) Both [a] and [r] are true and [r] is the correct reason for [a].

Explanation

Beta-carotene is a carotenoid pigment and provitamin A. Engineering its synthesis in rice endosperm produces the characteristic golden coloration that underlies the name Golden rice. Consequently both statements are true and the reason explains the assertion. Under this option order the answer is C.
