GATE 2025 AR — Architecture – Question 49

Urban Land Use and Transportation · Aggregate and disaggregate transport demand models and forecasting · 2 marks · Numerical answer

Metro ridership 367200/day will replace 18% of existing trips. Existing shares are two-wheelers 22%, four-wheelers 17%, public bus 16%, auto/e-rickshaw 16%, taxi 15%, nonmotorised 14%. Half the metro shift replaces two- and four-wheelers in 2:1 ratio. Find remaining two-wheeler trips/day, as an integer.

Correct answer: 320000 to 330000

Explanation

Existing total trips are 367200/0.18=2040000/day. Two-wheelers initially account for 0.22×2040000=448800. Their shift ishalf×(2/3)×367200=122400 trips/day. Remaining two-wheeler trips are 448800−122400=326400/day. The 2:1 split applies only to the specified half of total metro ridership.
