For the beam and loads shown, ignore self-weight and find the maximum hogging-moment magnitude in kN·m, to one decimal.

Correct answer: 9.9 to 10.1
Explanation
The 5 kN load acts 2 m beyond the right support and produces a hogging moment of 5×2=10 kN·m at that support. The right overhang has linear moment variation to zero at its free end. Checking the remaining loaded supported span does not give a larger hogging magnitude. Therefore maximum hogging magnitude is 10.0 kN·m.
