GATE 2017 EC – Question 23

Analog Circuits · BJT and MOSFET Amplifiers · 1 mark · Multiple choice

A good transconductance amplifier should have

  1. high input resistance and low output resistance
  2. low input resistance and high output resistance
  3. high input and output resistances
  4. low input and output resistances

Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: (C) high input and output resistances

Explanation

A transconductance amplifier takes a voltage input and gives a current output. To sense the voltage without loading the source, it needs a high input resistance. To deliver a current that does not depend on the load, it needs a high output resistance.
