A color model is shown in the figure with color codes: Yellow (Y), Magenta (M), Cyan (Cy), Red (R), Blue (Bl), Green (G), and Black (K).

Which one of the following options displays the color codes that are consistent with the color model?

A Venn diagram of three overlapping circles Yellow, Magenta and Cyan. Yellow with Magenta is Red, Magenta with Cyan is Blue, Yellow with Cyan is Green, and all three together are Black. Four re-drawn versions (A) to (D) follow, each made of a rectangle for Yellow, a rounded blob for Magenta, a tilted rectangle for Cyan and a small lobe for Cyan at the top left, with the regions labelled.

Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: (A) Option A in the figure

Explanation

In the model each overlap has one fixed colour: Y with M is R, M with Cy is Bl, Y with Cy is G, and all three together is K. In option A the lobe at the top left (Cy) overlaps the rectangle (Y) to give G, the blob (M) to give Bl and both to give K, and the rectangle and the blob together give R. Where the tilted rectangle (Cy) crosses the rectangle and the blob it shows K, and where it crosses the rectangle alone it shows G. Every label in A follows the model. In B, C and D one or more of these overlaps carry the wrong colour code.
