A square threaded screw is used to lift a load W by applying a force F. Efficiency of square threaded screw is expressed as

  1. The ratio of work done by W per revolution to work done by F per revolution
  2. $W/F$
  3. $F/W$
  4. The ratio of work done by F per revolution to work done by W per revolution

Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: (A) The ratio of work done by W per revolution to work done by F per revolution

Explanation

Efficiency is the useful work output divided by the work input. The output is the work done on the load W in one revolution, and the input is the work done by the effort F in the same revolution.
