GATE 2021 CE (CE1) – Question 53

Construction Management · Project planning and scheduling: AOA and AON, PERT and CPM · 2 marks · Numerical answer

A project has activities N(2,none), P(5,N), Q(3,N), R(4,P), S(5,Q), T(8,R), U(7,R and S), V(2,U), W(3,U), X(5,T and V), Y(1,W), Z(3,X and Y), with durations in weeks. Find total float of V (integer).

Correct answer: 0 to 0

Explanation

Forward pass gives EF(R)=11, EF(S)=10, EF(U)=18, EF(V)=20, EF(T)=19, EF(X)=25 and project finish 28. Backward pass gives LS(Z)=25, LS(X)=20, and LS(V)=18. Since ES(V)=18, total float is LS−ES=**0 weeks**; V is critical.
