A single-plate clutch disc has inner and outer radii 20 and 40 mm. Friction coefficient varies as $\mu=0.01r$ with r in mm. It must transmit 18.85 kN mm. Under uniform-pressure theory, the disc pressure is ______ MPa.

Explanation
On one annular face, dT=μr·p·2πr dr=0.02πp r³dr because μ=0.01r in millimetres. Integrating20 to40mm and counting both working faces gives T=0.01πp(40⁴−20⁴). Setting T=18850N·mm yields p=18850/(24000π)=**0.500MPa**.
