A 300 mm thick slab is being cold rolled using roll of 600 mm diameter. If the coefficient of friction is 0.08, the maximum possible reduction (in mm) is __________

Correct answer: 1.90 to 1.94
Explanation
For the small-angle biting condition, maximum thickness reduction isΔhmax=μ²R. Roll diameter600mm gives radius300mm. Thus Δhmax=0.08²·300=**1.92mm**. Using the diameter in place of radius would double the result.
