GATE 2024 AG – Question 51

Farm Power · Sources of Power · 2 marks · Numerical answer

A 1.5 kW diesel engine runs continuously for two hours in dual-fuel biogas/diesel mode. Biogas requirement is .67 m³/(kW·hour). A KVIC plant has gas holding capacity60% of nominal size. Find minimum suitable integer plant size in m³.

Correct answer: 4 to 4

Explanation

Total gas needed is $.67(1.5)(2)=2.01$ m³. With storage fraction.60,nominal size must satisfy $.60V\ge2.01$,or $V\ge3.35$ m³. The minimum whole-cubic-metre size meeting the requirement is **4 m³**. Rounding down would fail to provide the required continuous-operation storage.
