A continuous miner with two shuttle cars produces 240 tonnes/hour. Each car carries 10 tonnes. With one car operating, its cycle takes 4 min. Find the reduction from two-car production in percent, to one decimal.
One car makes 60/4=15 trips per hour and moves 15×10=150 tonnes/hour. The production loss is 240−150=90 tonnes/hour. Relative to the original 240, reduction is 90/240×100 = 37.5%. The new one-car cycle is supplied explicitly and should not be assumed equal to half the original fleet output.
