GATE 2016 EC – Question 19

Networks, Signals and Systems · Two-Port Networks and Wye-Delta Transformation · 1 mark · Multiple choice

Consider a two-port network with the transmission matrix: $T = \begin{pmatrix} A & B \\ C & D \end{pmatrix}$. If the network is reciprocal, then

  1. $T^{-1} = T$
  2. $T^2 = T$
  3. Determinant $(T) = 0$
  4. Determinant $(T) = 1$

Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: (D) Determinant $(T) = 1$

Explanation

For a reciprocal two-port network the transmission parameters satisfy $AD - BC = 1$, so the determinant of $T$ is 1.
