Which of the following statements regarding the below mentioned mRNA sequence is/are TRUE?

5'-UGAUGAGCCUUAACCGGGAACGAAUUUAAG-3'

Correct answer: (A) It contains nine codons in the reading frame; (C) It codes for eight amino acids

Explanation

The first AUG starts at position 3: AUG AGC CUU AAC CGG GAA CGA AUU UAA | G. That is nine codons, the last one (UAA) a stop codon, so eight amino acids are coded.
