A fillet weld has direct shear stress 50 MPa and bending tensile stress 150 MPa. According to IS 800:2007 referred to in the paper, equivalent stress, to two decimals, is ______ MPa.

Correct answer: 173.10 to 173.30
Explanation
Equivalent weld stress is $\sqrt{\sigma^2+3\tau^2}=\sqrt{150^2+3(50^2)}=173.205$ MPa, or 173.21 MPa.
