Two 8 mm steel plates are connected by 6 mm fillet welds as shown. Allowable plate and weld stresses are 150 and 110 MPa. Treat the indicated weld lengths as effective lengths. Maximum permissible load P is ______ kN.

Explanation
The narrow plate area is $50(8)=400$ mm², giving capacity $400(150)=60000$ N = 60 kN. Weld length is $100+100+50=250$ mm; its capacity is $250(0.707)(6)(110)=116655$ N. The smaller plate capacity governs: P = 60 kN.
