A fillet weld simultaneously carries factored normal stress 120 MPa and shear stress 50 MPa. According to IS 800:2007 referred to in the paper, equivalent stress, to two decimals, is ______ MPa.

Correct answer: 147.50 to 148.50
Explanation
Combine normal and shear components using $f_e=\sqrt{f_n^2+3\tau^2}$. Thus $f_e=\sqrt{120^2+3(50^2)}=147.9865$ MPa, rounded to 147.99 MPa.
