GATE 2025 EC – Question 64

Electromagnetics · Transmission Lines · 2 marks · Numerical answer

A 50 Ω lossless transmission line is terminated with a load $Z_L$ of $(50-j75)$ Ω.

If the average incident power on the line is 10 mW, then the average power delivered to the load (in mW, rounded off to one decimal place) is __________.

Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: 6.37 to 6.43

Explanation

$\Gamma=\dfrac{Z_L-Z_0}{Z_L+Z_0}=\dfrac{-j75}{100-j75}$, so $|\Gamma|^2=\dfrac{75^2}{100^2+75^2}=0.36$. The power delivered to the load is $P_{inc}(1-|\Gamma|^2)=10\times0.64=6.4$ mW.
