Explanation

Folding along the dotted vertical line superimposes the right half on the left half (the sheet is transparent, so both halves show). The left half has the stem and a "<" shaped pair of strokes, and the right half contributes its mirror image of the two diagonals, which together make two nested arrow heads against the stem. That is figure (C).
