GATE 2014 EC (EC1) – Question 26

Five JK flip-flops are cascaded as shown. Applied clock frequency is 1 MHz. Find the waveform frequency at Q₃ (kHz).

Correct answer: 62.4 to 62.6

Explanation

All J and K inputs are1, so each flip-flop toggles once per active edge of its clock and divides frequency by2. Trace the crossover wires: the chain is clock→Q0→Q1→Q2→Q3→Q4. Q3 is after four divisions, giving1MHz/16=**62.5kHz**. Wire crossovers are not junctions.
