GATE 2016 EE (EE2) – Question 24
Power Systems · Per-unit quantities, Bus admittance matrix, Gauss-Seidel and Newton-Raphson load flow methods · 1 mark · Multiple choice
A power system has 100 buses, including 10 generator buses. With polar-coordinate Newton–Raphson load flow, the Jacobian size is
- 189×189
- 100×100
- 90×90
- 180×180

Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: (A) 189×189
Explanation
Of the 10 generator buses, one serves as slack and the other nine are PV buses. There are 90 PQ buses.
There are 99 unknown angles at non-slack buses and 90 unknown voltage magnitudes at PQ buses. The Jacobian therefore has order 99+90=**189, A**.
