GATE 2021 MN – Question 62

Mineral Economics, Mine Planning, Systems Engineering · Systems Engineering · 2 marks · Numerical answer

Three cement factories supply 600, 100, 1000 t/day. Demands at D 1, D 2, D 3, D 4 are 700, 500, 300, 200 t/day. Unit transport costs are F 1:[20, 30, 110, 70], F 2:[10, 0, 60, 10], F 3:[50, 80, 150, 90]. Find total cost of the initial basic feasible solution using the least-cost rule, as an integer.

Correct answer: 112000 to 112000

Explanation

Allocate 100 to F 2D 2 at zero cost. Next allocate 600 to F 1D 1 at 20. Factory 3 serves the remaining demands:100 at D 1, 400 at D 2, 300 at D 3 and 200 at D 4. Cost is 12000+5000+32000+45000+18000=112000. Supplies and demands both total 1700, so no dummy row or column is required.
